Can you briefly introduce yourself (background, past and current positions)?
As co-founder and managing partner of WhatAVenture, I have shaped the innovation landscape in Austria and Germany for over a decade, having supported more than 150 corporates in unleashing their innovation potential. Projects that I have supported in the past have received in total more than €500 M in funding.
What is your company’s activity, and what is its competitive edge?
WhatAVenture Beteiligungs GmbH invests as an extreme-hands-on investor in (corporate) startups. Next to our financial investment, we want to fill a skill gap the startup needs to cover quickly. The team of WhatAVenture consists of more than 35 experienced hands-on entrepreneurs that combine almost every skill it needs to build a successful venture.
What are your main projects/targets for 2022?
We want to grow our portfolio (currently 7 companies) by 3 companies per year.
In an ideal situation, what would you change or improve in the current VC/PE market?
Invest more in hardware startups.
Which one of the following topics inspires you most and why? – Sustainability, Equality, Education, Regulation
Sustainability: Most of our current portfolio companies are around this topic creating impact from different angles.
